Secretary’s September minutes were reviewed prior to the meeting by the membership. The minutes are also posted on the chapter website, VVA165.org. Minutes were approved as drafted.

Treasurer’s September report was read by Ken Richardson. The report was approved as read. Some items discussed included possible alternative locations for next year’s car show. Doc Holliday is investigating Civic Stadium. Tom Modica and Dale Boe are in contact with the Sunset Mall owner about increasing the number of parking spaces over what the chapter had this year.

Truck Show Donation of $500 was received from Joe Massert. This $500 will be a component of the $2,000 check given this month to the BTC Endowment Fund. Doc Holliday mentioned that the Gearheads made a $250 donation to the car show and should receive a letter of appreciation. The membership agreed and Gene Goldsmith will send the letter.

Membership Update was given by Gene Goldsmith. The chapter currently has 272 members plus 10 members who are late in renewing their memberships. Gene Goldsmith has contacted most of those 10 members about updating their membership. There are three additional member prospects including Willy Isaacs. There are also 7 Auxiliary VVA members.

Old Business

The BTC Endowment Fund will receive a check for an additional $2,000 donation from the chapter at a breakfast on October 6th. Lonnie Rose, Gene Goldsmith, Kirk Lyon and Bill Bowen will attend and represent the chapter.

The Third Annual Wife/Husband/Guest Dinner will be held December 6th at 6PM at the VFW Post 1585 at 625 North State Street in Bellingham. All chapter members are invited. Cost is $15 per person. Gene Goldsmith will send out letters to approximately 200 members who are not on his email list. Please RSVP to Gene Goldsmith at genegoldsmith@comcast.net or phone him at (360) 384-2484. There will be no meeting that night. The chapter will need volunteers to help set up and to clean up. Members can bring food if they choose. Let Gene know if you are bringing anything.

New Business

The Mailing of Troop Boxes to approximately 50 active Whatcom County service members was discussed by Liz Rose. Liz is the president of the VFW 9301 Auxiliary. She requested a donation to help support a quarterly mailing of troop boxes which cost approximately $50 each. A motion was made to donate $750 to the VFW 9301 Auxiliary for this purpose. Motion seconded and passed. Liz also mentioned that she has visited Growing Veterans and Brigadoon both of which are organizations that aid veterans. Both trips were very worthwhile and she recommends them to the chapter.

The DAV Fundraiser for Veterans Day was discussed by Gene Goldsmith. A signup sheet was distributed for shifts at Haggens locations in Sehome, Meridian and Barkley Village. This is a major fund raiser for the DAV so it is important to participate.

The State Council meeting was discussed by Gene Goldsmith. It will be October 29th at the Pancake House in Snoqualmie Falls. Gene Goldsmith and George Douglas will attend and represent the chapter.

The VVA Veterans Magazine was discussed by Gene Goldsmith. On page 12 of the most recent issue our chapter was mentioned as the top chapter in obtaining new members.

Car Show Certificates of Appreciation for donors was discussed by Randy Turnbull. Members who solicited donors should pick up from Randy their respective donors certificates. Dave and Rosemarie Loomis created these certificates. In country pictures of Dave Loomis and Ken Richardson as young men are discretely blended into the certificates. Dave Loomis requested that all members send to him Vietnam era pictures of themselves so that he and Rosemarie can make a large collage.

Next meeting is November 1, 2016.  Dinner will be at 6:00 PM. The meeting will be at 7:00 PM.

Good of the Order

First, Gene Goldsmith reminded the members to check their VFW monthly calendar for upcoming events.

Second, Duane Holliday is selling Vietnam Veteran hats for $15 each after the meeting.

Third, Randy Turnbull reminded the members to think about running for officer and board of director positions next March.

Fourth, Gene Goldsmith has VVA business cards and VVA membership applications to give out to members who may need them for recruitment or for other chapter business.

Motion to adjourn meeting at @ 7:20 PM. Motion seconded and passed. The meeting was adjourned by Gene Goldsmith.
