Entries for December, 2016

Dinner meeting of December 6, 2016

For all of those who did not attend, you missed a great dinner on Tuesday, 6 December. There were 71 attendees at this great event. It was deftly orchestrated by Kenny Payne and Frank Wojciechowski. The menu included salad (natch), a huge baron (king?) of beef, mashed potatoes, two vegetables and dessert. No one went hungry. Kenny cut huge slices of beef, all the time grinning. A hundred-thousand slaps on the back to those two and all else who assisted.

Richard Brummett gave a short talk, accompanied by slides of the amazing American Chocolate Ceremony in Vietnam. The children are so camera-friendly. It appears that there are no kids in Vietnam who are not appealing in photographs. Chapter 165 supports five of the Children of Vietnam. Other chapter members individually support other children.

Kirk Lyon gave a short synopsis of the scholarship fund at Bellingham Technical College (BTC). He reiterated the reasons for choosing BTC. And Kirk gave an update on the funds. The funds now given to the endowment in memory of Gary Lysne now total $6115.00. That was all the business conducted at the dinner. The remainder of the time was spent in conversations. The din was so loud that at times one had to yell across the table to be heard.

The next meeting will be 3 January 2017 at the usual place – basement of the VFW hall, at the usual time, dinner at 6:00 pm (18:00) with the business meeting starting at 7:00 (19:00). Don’t forget that February 11, 2017 is the chapter’s Valentine’s Day dinner. Included is the bottle auction, the proceeds from which will go to the BTC scholarship endowment. We want to see this fund keep growing. It does your old ticker good to give to something like that – physicians say so.

Until then live strong.
