Secretary’s September minutes were reviewed prior to the meeting by the membership. The minutes are also posted on the chapter website, VVA165.org. Minutes were approved as drafted.

Treasurer’s September report was read by Ken Richardson. Tom Modica noted that an $850 Scholarship Fund expense was incorrectly recorded in the General Fund. Correction will be made by Ken.  The report was approved as read except as previously noted.

Membership Update was given by Jim Pace. The chapter currently has approximately 270 members. This gives the chapter ten votes now on state voting matters. There is currently a $100 special offer for a lifetime membership with the VVA. He recommended that all members who are eligible should take advantage of this offer.

Bill passed out a form for all delegates and alternates to note their email addresses which he will also send to the VVA State Secretary who requested them. Two amendments to the State Council Bylaws were discussed. It was recommended that the delegates vote to pass both amendments.

Snack Night was discussed by Gene Goldsmith. It will be on October 9 at the VFW at 6PM. It is very important for chapter members to attend and support snack night. The actual garage sale will occur the following day.

Good of the Order

First, Gary Lysne discussed the Governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Town Hall Meeting on October 15, 2015. It will be held between 10AM and Noon at 2300 Market St. in Mount Vernon. The purpose is to learn about local veteran’s services and benefits and to hear about veterans issues being debated in the Washington State Legislature.

Second, Gene Goldsmith reminded the members to check their VFW monthly calendar for upcoming events.

Third, Gene Goldsmith mentioned that Kenny needs help at snack night on October 9th.

Fourth, Ken Richardson discussed a friend of his who is the national coordinator for The Legion of the Silver Rose. Ken’s friend is in the American Legion post in Tombstone Arizona. The Legion of the Silver Rose recognizes veterans and their families suffering from the toxic effects of Agent Orange. Ken suggested our chapter consider this Legion for Bellingham and gave some information to Gary Lysne for his review.

Fifth, Gary Lysne encouraged all chapter members to call Congressional members and voice their support for the Toxic Substance Bill. This bill would promote research on the effect of toxic substances on all veterans and their families including veteran’s children and grandchildren. In the House of Representatives this bill is HR 1769. In the Senate this bill is SB 901. It is recommended to call the Washington, DC office and not the local congressional liaison office. Calling Patty Murray, a Washington State Senator, would be particularly important.

Motion to adjourn meeting at 7:48 PM. Motion seconded and passed. The meeting was adjourned by Gene Goldsmith.
