Secretary’s May minutes     not discussed or accepted

Treasurer’s May report         Ken Richardson presented the balance sheet and statement as of 31 May 2015. (He recklessly spent $30 on office supplies). The report was approved as presented. Report attached. Moved, seconded and approved to dedicate $500 to Gene Goldsmith and Bill Bowen for costs to attend national convention in Springfield Ill. Moved, seconded and approved to dedicate $250 to Jim Pace to attend the regional conference in Reno, Nevada – the biggest little city in the world – on 27 June.

Membership Update: Jim Pace updated roster to 236 as of about a month ago. He reckons that the figure is near 250 now. Motion to create a position of 2nd Vice President, whose job will not be vice, but membership recruitment, contact, and mentorship. Gary Lysne was nominated to be the VP. We want to keep all us new guys. Motion seconded and passed.

Old Business:     

  1. The Viet Nam experience books sold out in a hurry. Gene Goldsmith is directed to purchase 20 additional.
  2. Car show 19 July. Tom Modica recruiting (4) more $75 trophy sponsors. He encouraged all to press local businesses for raffle prizes – restaurant gift certificates are really popular. He found volunteers (?) to distribute information flyers about the car show to earlier car shows.
  3. Memorial Day celebration went well. A great big thanx to all – especially Kenny Payne.
  4. The national meeting in Springfield will have four members attending – Jim Pace, Bill Bowen, Gary Lysne and Gene Goldsmith.
  5. After the Region 8&9 conference in Reno, Gary will be reporting any changes in the bylaws and what the regions want.
  6. A picnic celebrating WWII veterans will be held at Lairmont Manor on 17 August.

New Business:   

  1. Snack night 26 June at the VFW
  2. 12 June shrimp salad night at the VFW

Next meeting is 7 July 2015.  Be there or be square.

Good of the Order:     

  1. Check your VFW calendar….things happen
  2. Third Saturday (20 June) VFW Post 9301 breakfast at Hinote’s corner
  3. Drivers are needed for the DAV van
  4. Research needed into effects of defoliants etc. on kids and grandkids. Write; call Congress members get them to sign on as co-sponsors.
  5. Discussion of correcting the KIA/MIA plaques at the county courthouse, and other locations to reflect that Rainier Ramos and Keith Brandt be no longer in the MIA category
  6. John Forgette talked about the Wichita KS memorial from the Viet local community.
  7. Tom Modica mentioned talking to a 93 year old WWII veteran. He also told Tom interesting stories of  French Indochina before it was Vietnam as well stories about Korea.
  8. Bill Bowen asked about displaying the Viet Nam service flag in the meeting room.
  9. Ed Simmers invited all to a dance at the VFW 25 July, which happens to be his 70th World famous entertainment assured.
