A Video and Slide Presentation was given by Richard Brummett about his recent trip to Vietnam. He discussed the Annual American Chocolate Ceremony at the school that the chapter partially supports with student scholarships. These scholarships are in conjunction with the Children of Vietnam Charity. Pictures and videos of some of the students were shown and discussed.

Secretary’s April minutes were reviewed prior to the meeting by the membership. Minutes were approved as drafted.

Treasurer’s April report was read by Ken Richardson. The report was approved as read and the report is attached.

Membership Update was given by Jim Pace. The chapter currently has 226 members. This gives the chapter nine votes now on state voting matters. This increase in membership from 117 this time last year reflects the hard work of Jim Pace. Last week a group of about 12 chapter members addressed and mailed approximately 400 new requests for memberships with applications to Vietnam veterans and Vietnam era veterans.

Old Business

State Council Delegates was discussed by Bill Bowen. The National Council meeting will be held July 21 through 25 in Springfield, Illinois. The State Council will reimburse state delegates to the convention $625 per delegate. Funds are limited so it is on a first come first serve basis. The chapter may pick up the balance if there are insufficient State Council funds. Gary Lysne and Gene Goldsmith have both indicated a desire to attend. If interested contact Bill Bowen.

Scholarship Update was given by Bill Bowen. He received the first two scholarship applications in the mail today. Because of the few number of applications received this year, the chapter may have to open up the scholarship application criteria to allow more participants. This will be discussed at a later date. Scholarships will be awarded at the Memorial Day service and picnic.

The Car Show was discussed by Tom Modica. So far he has had no volunteers to hand out car show flyers and chapter applications at other car shows. Tom distributed a signup sheet with five future car shows and requested volunteers. He is working on some T-shirt replacements. We only have two sponsors for trophies so far and need more. There will be a total of four $100 trophies and nine $75 trophies. The car show location will be the K-Mart parking lot off of Sunset on July 19. Volunteers are needed for set up before the show and clean up afterward. Ed Simmers will be doing CD’s for sale again this year.

Memorial Day Service and Picnic was discussed by Randy Elmore. All veterans and their families are invited. It will be held on Memorial Day at Hovandar Park by the large pavilion. The service will be at 4PM and the picnic at 5PM. Volunteers are needed for set up before the event and clean up afterward. $1,000 has been allocated toward the food to be done by Ken Payne. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. Pickup trucks are requested to meet at the VFW at 10AM Memorial Day in order to bring the gear to the event. A signup sheet was distributed.

CWO Rainier Ramos was discussed by Tom Modica. This is a Blaine MIA whose remains were found in Vietnam last year. A memorial was discussed. Tom will draft an obituary for publication.

A Vietnam Era book was discussed by Dave Loomis and is available for sale tonight for $20. See Ken Richardson to pay if you want a copy. Tom Modica indicated that several copies have been give to local libraries.

New Business

Snack Night will be on May 22nd at the VFW at 6PM. Ken Payne will do the food. It is very important for chapter members to attend and support this event.

A Made in America Petition will be brought to the next meeting by Tom Modica. Those interested can sign. It will be sent to Medals of American with copies to National VVA. It will request that all VVA products are American made.

Next meeting is June 2, 2015.  Dinner will be at 6PM and the meeting at 7PM.

Good of the Order

First, Randy Elmore requested that all emails sent general distribution to the chapter member’s concern only VVA or chapter business. He suggested that some of the Board of Directors speak with our enthusiastic president Gene Goldsmith who does send out emails on unrelated VVA or chapter business.

Second, Jim Pace indicated that there will be a ceremony on May 13th honoring an individual who has helped Jim identify new veterans which need assistance. Members are invited. See Jim about the details.

Motion to adjourn meeting at 8:04 PM. Motion passed and meeting adjourned by Dave Loomis.
