Secretary’s September minutes were reviewed prior to the meeting by the membership. Minutes were approved as drafted.

Treasurer’s September report was read by Gene Goldsmith. The report was approved as read and the report is attached. Five other items were discussed at this time by Gene Goldsmith. First, Gene expressed frustration over confusing information in the treasurer’s report. However, since the Treasure was absent, these questions couldn’t be answered at the meeting. Two, the VASH bus pass project was discussed. VASH veterans are starting to pick up their bus passes. Third, the Timothy McNiven correspondence was discussed. It was recommended that he contact the Vet Center. Fourth, the chapter expenses for the Agent Orange town hall meeting came in just under the $1,500 ceiling that the chapter authorized at the last meeting. Fifth, the fund raiser at the Lithia car dealership was successful and made about $734 for the chapter.

Membership Update was given by Jim Pace. The chapter currently has 152 members. This gives the chapter four votes now on state voting matters.

Old Business

The Agent Orange Town Hall Meeting was discussed by Bill Bowen, Gary Lysne, Jim Pace and Gene Goldsmith. It was very successful and Bill Bowen thanked the membership for their participation. Bill Cox discussed and distributed handouts concerning H.R. 543 which is a bill in congress to extend medical coverage for Agent Orange related illnesses to the Blue Water Navy who served in the territorial waters of Vietnam. He will email to Gene Goldsmith a flyer describing how to support this bill by contacting your local congressman. Gene in turn will send the flyer to all chapter members as well as other veteran groups.

The Lithia Dealership Fund Raiser was a success and Gene Goldsmith thanked the chapter members for their participation.

New Business

The Bottle Auction was discussed by Randy Elmore. He and Richard Martinez have been coordinating this event in years past. Randy said that he did not want to be the point man for the event this year although he would serve as master of ceremonies. He will speak with Richard to see if he will volunteer as point man for the auction this year. Further review of the auction will be at the next meeting and after the discussion with Richard.

A Service Account for Officers and Board Members was discussed by Gene Goldsmith. Gene mentioned that he has received calls from veterans who are in immediate need of cash for some emergency. He would like to have a fund that is available specifically to assist these veterans that he could use on an immediate basis. Discussion ensued. Ken Richardson discussed what he considers to be excess funds in the Scholarship Fund and would like at future meetings to discuss reducing the Scholarship Fund balances and using these funds for more immediate veteran needs. Further discussion of reducing the Scholarship Fund is deferred to a future meeting. Ken made a motion to allocate $500 from the General Fund to set up a service account to be used by the president at his discretion for needy veterans. This fund would be limited to payments made in $100 increments per request. Motion seconded and passed.

The State VVA Meeting meeting will be held on October 25th. The chapter needs four delegates and an alternate and Gene Goldsmith asked for volunteers. The four delegates are Gene Goldsmith, Gary Lysne, Kirk Lyon and Ed Simmers. The alternate is David Loomis.

VVA Snack Night is October 17th. All members are encouraged to attend.

Next meeting is November 4, 2014.
